The forum has helped several Hyndburn communities raise funds for badly needed children’s playgrounds since we formed in 2005, but never one quite like this one which will not only be the first of its kind in Hyndburn, but the first of its kind in Lancashire, and the Northwest and beyond. So what makes this one so Special!

Well, this is a playground for the forgotten children, those children who were born different, or suffered sickness or trauma early in their young lives. The disabled children who thru no fault of their own are unable to use the fantastic playgrounds scattered around the Borough that most of us parents take for granted.

In 2015 Hyndburn Parents & Carers group requested a meeting with Hyndburn Borough Council Parks Team to discuss the problems their families had with the current play provision.  A review by Hyndburn Borough Council of its current play facilities then followed, and the Hyndburn “Play Plan 2016-2020” was produced.

Several groups including inclusive play, the forum and Hyndburn Leisure Trust then came together and consultation began on the type of play equipment and ancillary facilities that were required.

The result is a very special SEND playground specifically designed to meet the needs of disabled children.

As part of the consultation, we are asking parents/ carers/ grandparents of children with disabilities to tell us in a paragraph what this special SEND playground would mean to you and your families.
